Some friends told me yesterday that perhaps it was a good idea to introduce myself for those people who don't know me. Perhaps to give an idea of who I am, what I do and just why am I so crazy about lions.
So here it is.....my profile!
I am a 36 year old Zimbabwean male living and working in Hwange national park. I am a consultant to Oxford's WildCRU and have worked on their Lion research project here for about eight years now.
I set up the Long Shields project here after a visit to the Kenyan Lion Guardians in 2011.
I was born and raised in cities but from the very first signs my parents could tell I was destined to live out in the wilds. My love of lions started at the age of about 10 yrs old when a captive lion peed on me through his enclosure fence!
I live out here with my beautiful wife Laurie Simpson and our 5 yr old son Oliver and we are planning to be here forever. My wife is building our home by hand following permaculture principals and has her own blog where you can follow that story http://dancelikeanelephant.blogspot.com
As far as the running goes, I ran a marathon once before with a very good school friend. We were just 15 years old and fudged the entry forms to participate. I ran it in 4hrs and 38 min and my ankles have clicked loudly ever since. That was twenty one years ago!!
I have a couple of photos of me already on this blog so won't add any more but see if you can spot me crossing the Vic falls bridge on the front page.
